The origin of Annot chestnut groves goes back to the XVIth century. Widely associated with the stoneware, this symbolic tree of our territory fed, for centuries, the inhabitants. But, in the last century, the sweet chestnut was abandoned and orchards were abandoned little by little.
Since 2004, within the framework of the local forest Country A3V program, five properties have been regrouped by their owners (owners from Annot, Braux, Castellet Sausses, Fugeret, Méailles and Saint Benoît), in order to renovate the chestnut grove. Ten years later, the renovated orchards found a new life, the production is transformed in the Cévennes and sold all around. The opening of a processing plan on the canton is in project.
The "Grès d'Annot chestnut cream" pots and natural chestnuts are sold in Annot shops and market on Tuesday morning.
Fresh or dried the mushrooms were, at all times, consumed by the locals. The most famous is the cep whose presence is facilitated by the acidic soil and forest trees. Warning: wild mushroom picking is regulated.
Fresh or dry depending on the season, you will find them on sale in shops and on the market.
Delicatessen and cured meat
In our countryside, ham, bacon, pork loins and breasts were salted to preserve them. We made "Caillette" a mixture of sage flavored pork liver wrapped in a thin slice of fat lard or patê such as "Pastissoun" a mix of chicken liver, pork fat and chestnuts.
