Train of yesterday and today on the same rails
This railway is independent from the SNCF and by now a hundred years old.
It connects Nice to Digne les Bains with a regular service every day and throughout the year, offering travelers a beautiful scenery in all season.
Ouvrage d'art and perched villages are placed all along the 151 kilometers of this single track.
This railway track is only a meter in width to meander more easily through the mountains.
You can reach Annot by train from Nice in 1hr 40 or from Digne les bains in 1hr 30.
Sneaking between chestnut and sandstone blocks before entering the station, the train will take hikers right at the trailheads and does offer urbanites a pleasant change of scenery.
The steam Train des Pignes Railway
With its open platform, its varnished wood benches, its early last century engine spewing clouds of smoke in the air, the steam "Train des Pignes" offers a wonderful trip back in time. It runs on the line of Railways de Provence every Sunday from May to October and some Fridays in the summer, it leaves Puget-Theniers shortly before 11:00 am and deposit its passengers at lunch time. A visit to the medieval city, have lunch in a local restaurant and the train will blow its whistle to bring you back to Puget-Theniers.
Treat yourself to this wonderful trip!
